Ballynahinch came away from the match on Saturday with all the bragging rights in what turned out to be a highly entertaining yet scrappy friendly match on Saturday.
Missing influential flanker Callum Rice, Hinch started nervously, with many missed tackles showcasing what was to come from both sides. Indeed it was Coleraine that opened the scoring after a strong run from their winger but they could not convert the conversion.
Hinch managed to level things just before the half time whistle with the ball being ripped impressively by Jack Ferris on the Coleraine 10 metre line before finding its way to prop Karl Irwin who barged over the line.
The second half proved a different affair, with Hinch’s fitness and superior skill levels becoming evident. Ferris and Ben Ogle in the centre orchestrated a spirited fight back with crunching tackles a plenty.
Hinch had plenty of opportunities to take the lead but final handling errors let the side down on more than one occasion. However, captain, Kyle Gill broke from a ruck on the right to barge his way through the Coleraine defence and give Hinch the lead. At this point the visitors spirits broke allowing winger Yasin Ouldhamlat to score his fifth try of the season.
Coleraine provided a scare in the final five minutes with a breakaway try but it was down to Ferris to finish the day with a fine jinking run to score in the right corner. A very solid performance from the Hinch today but many areas to improve on.
Man of the Match goes to Ben Ogle who just edges his centre partner Jack Ferris to the award.
