A Ballynahinch car breaker was fined a total of £1,913 at Downpatrick Magistrates’ Court today ( 4 November) for storing end of life vehicles and parts without the appropriate waste management licence.xa0
Mr Ralph Jess (50), trading as Railway Auto Spares of Ballylone Road, Ballynahinch pleaded guilty to waste offending.xa0
The charge attracted a fine of £1,000. In addition, Mr Jess was instructed to pay a compensation order of £913, court costs of £10 and an offender’s levy of £15.
During a site inspection in October 2012, officers from the Northern Ireland Environment Agency discovered end of life vehicles, tyres, batteries and waste oil being stored at the Ballylone Road site without the appropriate waste authorisation.
