ELECTORAL OFFICE RELEASE LATEST FIGURES ON RETURN OF CANVASS FORMS – OVER ONE MILLION FORMS HAVE NOW BEEN RETURNED

The Electoral Office today released the latest figures showing the number of forms returned so far in connection with this year’s electoral canvass. As of 24 October, 1,006,441 forms, representing 71.59% of the estimated eligible electorate, have already been returned to the Electoral Office. The highest responding constituency so far is Strangford with a 76.30% response rate, whilst the lowest is Belfast South with 62.58%.dn_screen

The third phase of the canvass will involve a mail out to all non-responding individuals and non-responding households. This will take place in early November.

Commenting on the figures the Chief Electoral Officer, Graham Shields, said, ‘I am delighted to see that over a million people have now returned their forms but there is still more to be done. It’s not too late to ensure that you are added to the register and I would encourage everyone who has not yet returned a form to do so without delay.’

Anyone requiring further information about how to complete their form or to obtain additional copies of the form can do so by contacting the Electoral Office Helpline number on 0800 4320 712 or the Electoral Office website at www.eoni.org.uk

The new electoral register will be published on 1December 2013.

The EU and local council elections will take place provisionally on 22 May 2014.

Census 2011 Figures by Ward and Constituency are available on the NINIS website and have been used in this analysis.
