Pam Warhurst CBE,xa0one of the founder members of xa0Incredible Edibles, a community vegetable, herb and fruit growing project in Todmorden, a market town in West Yorkshire, is coming to talk to local people about this amazing project on:

Members of Ballygowan District and Community Association (BDCA) who are co-ordinating the event have been looking at ways to develop their community plan which will help to regenerate their village.Sean Hughes, chairperson of the BDCA said: “Growing vegetables and fruit was one of the ideas that was identified inxa0our recent Ballygowanxa0community survey. We have already started our own Incredible Edible project by planting apple, pear and plum trees and raspberry bushes in the Comber Road Park, Ballygowan.

During her talk, Pam Warhurst will explain how the local people in Todmordonxa0came together to not only grow their own vegetables, fruit, herbs and flowers in every bit of waste ground, grass verge, along the river bank, at the train station, and in boxes on the pavement but also how they make the time and effort to maintain, prune, weed and care for the produce that can be picked and plucked by the local community for their own use.

Ards Councillor Deborah Girvan, xa0who made the initial contact to invite Pam Warhurst to attend the event, said: “I met Pam at a conference a few years ago and was really impressed with how a community growing project had been so successful in bringing local people together and how it spawned a whole variety of different projects such as bee keeping, the production of free range eggs and classes on growing and cooking xa0fruit and vegetables.
“I kept in touch with Pam and asked her if she would come and give a talk in our area and was so pleased when she said ‘Yes!’xa0xa0Incredible Edibles is an excellent example of how people can make a real difference to their own community and I have no doubt that her talk will inspire everyone to get involved in growing their own produce.”
