“We are delighted that Pam is coming to talk to local people about the remarkable community growing project in her home town.xa0xa0We would like to invite anyone who is interested in hearing her inspirational story to come along to the event where they will be made most welcome.xa0xa0xa0We would also like to thank the management of La Mon Hotel who have generously agreed to provide accommodation for Pam’s visit.”

During her talk, Pam Warhurst will explain how the local people in Todmordonxa0came together to not only grow their own vegetables, fruit, herbs and flowers in every bit of waste ground, grass verge, along the river bank, at the train station, and in boxes on the pavement but also how they make the time and effort to maintain, prune, weed and care for the produce that can be picked and plucked by the local community for their own use.

Pam Warhurst said: “Ixa0am delighted to accept the invitation to speak to localxa0people from the Ballygowanxa0districtxa0about Incredible Edibles.xa0 I congratulate the Ballygowan Community Association forxa0their vision, tenacity and hard workxa0in startingxa0their ownxa0vegetable and fruit growing project for thexa0residents of the village.xa0 As we have demonstrated in Todmordon, once the momentum gets going there is noxa0end to what can be achieved and I wish them every success for the future.”

Ards Councillor Deborah Girvan, xa0who made the initial contact to invite Pam Warhurst to attend the event, said: “I met Pam at a conference a few years ago and was really impressed with how a community growing project had been so successful in bringing local people together and how it spawned a whole variety of different projects such as bee keeping, the production of free range eggs and classes on growing and cooking xa0fruit and vegetables.

“I kept in touch with Pam and asked her if she would come and give a talk in our area and was so pleased when she said ‘Yes!’xa0xa0Incredible Edibles is an excellent example of how people can make a real difference to their own community and I have no doubt that her talk will inspire everyone to get involved in growing their own produce.”
