The population of muntjac deer in Ards Peninsula is increasing.[/caption]
STRANGFORD MP Jim Shannon has welcomed the decision by the department to carry out an investigation into the numbers of Muntjac Deers present in the Ards Peninsula.
He said: “There have been a number of reports in the Ards of Muntjac deer and this causes concern due to the damage that they cause to trees and habitat in the area. On the UK Mainland, the numbers of Muntjac are now at a high level causing much damage and concern. They are prolific breeders and their numbers will increase dramatically when no action is taken.
” I fully support the department in their study to ascertain numbers in the Ards Peninsula when there have been many sightings – it is always best to act early, and early action here will ensure that the problem does not explode later.”
