Assistance Dogs Northern Ireland (ADNI) trains dogs to assist owners with communication, social interaction, travel and household tasks and was awarded with the donation after being nominated for financial support by a Progressive Building Society member from Ballymena. The money will be used to develop ADNIโ€™s dog training resources.

The charity received the donation from Progressive as part of the building societyโ€™s Community Awards Scheme, which supports impactful initiatives by non-profit organisations working for the benefit of communities across Northern Ireland. The Awards invite funding applications for up to ยฃ2,000, with nominations coming from Progressive members.

The charity was presented with a cheque during a training session for assistance dogs in Knockbracken, Belfast.

Assistance Dogs NI trainer Lavinia Abrol from Ballykilner said: โ€œThe money from the Award will be put to great use in developing our training resources, enabling us to prepare the next generation of assistance dogs.

โ€œOn behalf of the charity, our volunteers and our pups, Iโ€™d like to thank William and everyone at Progressive for their kind donation.โ€

Speaking after watching the pups being put through their paces, Progressive area manager William Burgess added: โ€œAssistance Dogs NI was nominated for the Community Award by one of our members in Ballymena for the work they do and itโ€™s great to be here today and present them with the donation. The charity relies on the support of volunteers who travel from across Northern Ireland once a week to help train dogs to go out into the local community and support people in need so itโ€™s an incredibly worthy cause.โ€

The Progressive Building Society Community Awards Scheme has been raising money for local charities since 2001. Some of the charities helped by the scheme include NI Children’s Hospice, Age Concern NI, Enniskillen Riding School for the Disabled and the NI Cancer Fund for Children.

Members of the Society who wish to nominate a community group for consideration for a future Award can contact their local branch or download a form from the โ€˜About Progressive In the Communityโ€™ page on:
