NEWCASTLE’S annual Hallowtides Festival will be very much a family affair as this year as The Addams Family take centre stage for a major programme of spooky celebrations delivered by Down District Council.
The weird and wonderful characters of The Addams Family, made famous by countless TV shows and movies, has been chosen as the theme for Hallowtides 2013. Event organizers are hoping thatxa0Gomez,xa0Morticia,xa0Uncle Fester, Lurch,xa0Grandmama,xa0Wednesday,xa0P
Down District Council Chairman Cllr Maria McCarthy launched the 2013 Hallowtides Festival with the Addams Family.[/caption]This year’s programme is packed with themed events, activities and entertainment sure to please all the family and it promises to go easy on the family fortunes too. The frightening festivities will run from Saturday 26 – Thursday 31 October and most of the featured events are free to enjoy, while others have a firm value-for-money focus.
Speaking at the launch of this year’s Hallowtides programme, Down District Council Chairman, Councillor Maria McCarthy said, “In recent years Newcastle, has really taken Halloween to its heart.xa0 The town’s Hallowtides celebrations have grown in scale to become a highlight of Down District Council’s events calendar. Not only providing entertainment for the local community but also attracting a significant influx of visitors and contributing to the region’s wider tourism strategy.
“Newcastle is justly proud of its long-established reputation as a family resort and that is reflected in the programme which we unveil today.xa0 There is truly something here for all the family and with careful management, we have made sure there are no scary prices lurking in there!
“On that score I must pay particular tribute to the town’s dynamic traders and its vibrant hospitality sector who have really got behind Hallowtides 2013, enhancing major events and adding to the programme, all the while ensuring that our reputation for great choice and value is suitably enhanced this Autumn.xa0 Some of them have even promised to dress up as Addams Family characters, which is something I’m sure we’d all like to see.”
There will be no shortage of opportunities to spot The Addams Family at large in Newcastle this Hallowtides or indeed to dress up and join in the fun. From shop window competitions, treasure hunts, face painting and fancy dress competitions to street entertainment, a Cool FM Roadshow and of course the fantastic annual Float Parade and fireworks display on Saturday 26 October, it’s sure to be one spooky and kooky festival.
