U-13 Rugby From Ballynahinch RFC
James Neill reports from Ballymacarn Park – 7 September.
A new season of rugby commenced on Saturday as a very youthful and inexperienced Hinch side took to the field to face Belfast rivals Malone in this opening friendly. Both teams blooded almost entirely new teams with Hinch having only 5 players from last years squad including new captain Kyle Gill, who led his side magnificently today in wet and windy conditions.
The game started off quickly with both sides showing full commitment but the first breakthrough of the match came after five minutes, with debutante Yasin Ouldhamlat bending his run around the flailing Malone defenders to touch down in the right corner.
This was the confidence boost that the team needed with a flurry of top quality tackles coming from Ouldhamlat and winger Brandon Brechin to ensure that Malone did not bounce back immediately. New centre Ryan Burrows took the game by the scruff and barged through the middle of the Malone defence to add two tries before the break.
Burrows showed fantastic raw strength with the ball at hand and aggression in the tackle, with big things surely to come from the High School Ballynahinch pupil. The game was fully put to bed with further tries from the dominant Gill and the highly impressive Jonny Falls, playing at out-half for the first time.
However, surely the try of the match came from Ouldhamlat again, who was the beneficiary of excellent team work to once again score in the corner. After stifling the Malone forwards, scrum half Rowan Keating somehow managed to dig the ball from the ruck to begin a flurry of impressive passes that eventually ended in the hands of Ouldhamlat to complete the job. There was still time for Naseem Ouldhamlat to join his brother on the field and show that the family talent is not purely restricted to Yasin.
A big well done to all the boys, who were clinical in seizing the opportunities given to them. Man of the Match – Rowan Keating, who showed fantastic composure as Scrum Half on his club debut.
The new season has started and we would love to see as many players up as possible. If you want any more info please follow the club on twitter on @HinchRFC or through the club website www.hinchrfc.com.
