Bangor Amateurs 0 – Downpatrick 10

DOWNPATRICK hit Bangor Amateurs for ten in the Steel and Sons cup on Saturday. Stephen Galbraith took his seasons tally to 13 with five sensational goals inside sixty minutes; his 1st arrived from a pinpoint Barry ‘Spice’ Treacy cross. Galbraith’s 2nd was a neat lob over the advancing keeper. His and Downpatrick’s 3rd was scored from a tight angle after good work by Conail McGrady.

Andrew Telford making his first full start after returning from a season away from the club laid on Galbraith’s fourth with some good work in midfield before a putting Stephen through and the 5th from a well work short corner a truely incredible array of goals.

With the dream start Downpatrick were unstoppable with fast flowing direct football Bangor could only watch, solo goals for the excellent Conail McGrady and the now customary Barry Tracey added to Bangor’s misery. Treacy also supplied the cross for Matthew McGarrity who arrived in the box for his 2nd of the season on 60 minutes.

Downpatrick really were putting on a show and there determination not to let the pace slow showed when John Glennon fired home from all of 30 yards with a wonder strike in to the top right hand corner. At this stage Conor Mckenna was dictating the midfield and score line could have been worse for the Bangor lads.

Conan Russell picked the ball out of the air and fed birthday boy Barry Fitzsimons, his perfectly weighted pass found Mark Curran who beat three men before sliding in the charging wide man Telford who whipped in a cross which was met by Glennon  to slam the ball into the back of the net, it really was the goal of the game. Stand out performances from Russell and the returning Terrence Bell made it a day to remember for Downpatrick. Next up for Downpatrick is a home game in the Irish Cup to Saintfield United.
