Cancer Focus Northern Ireland is making an urgent call for volunteers to help out at Belfastโs first Deep RiverRock Belfast City Half Marathon on Sunday 22 September.
With up to 3,000 people running through the city streets, the charity is calling on volunteers to take part in cheering groups, to help at water stations and to welcome the runners in at the finish line.xa0 You can volunteer as an individual or as part of a group.
Morag Chambers, Cancer Focus Volunteer Coordinator, said: โWe are delighted to have been chosen as the official charity for this prestigious event. Not everyone is able to take part, but you can still enjoy the festival atmosphere by volunteering to help out at one of Northern Irelandโs biggest annual sporting event – and help Cancer Focus at the same time.
If youโre there to support a friend or family member running the event, why not station yourself at our cheering group to help motivate all of the runners?
โEvery year in Northern Ireland 5,794 men are diagnosed with cancer โ thatโs 22 men every working day. Around 2,000 of these men will lose their lives to cancer each year.
Cancer Focus offers a wide range of services to support people with cancer and their families and almost all of the money for these services comes from local fundraising activities so your help is invaluable,โ she said. To find out more contact [email protected] or call 028 9066 3281.
