The August Board meeting was held at the Silent Valley Visitor Centre, where Chairman Howard Hastings and Chief Executive Alan Clarke also welcomed the appointment of two new members to the NITB Board.

Colette Goldrick, Northern Irelandโ€™s first full-time Director of the Association of the British Pharmaceutical Industry, and Michael McQuillan, co-founder and Managing Director of the Streat cafรฉ chain, were appointed as NITB Board Members in July.

The Board also met local tourism stakeholders and industry representatives for discussions the previous evening at the Burrendale Hotel in Newcastle.

The Mournes is identified as one of nine key destinations and NITB is currently engaging, supporting and building close links with representatives of Newry and Mourne, Down and Banbridge district councils to develop a destination plan for the area.

โ€œWith the completion of recent investments such as the Mourne Coastal Route and two world-class mountain biking trails, visitors to the area have access to an increasing range of quality tourism products in some of our most beautiful and scenic countryside,โ€ said Howard Hastings.

โ€œEngaging with our key destinations is very important in the ongoing work to create good visitor experiences around these investments and in in our main tourism assets, as well as building on the achievements of the ni2012: our time, our place campaign and the major events of 2013.

โ€œI am confident that with their colleagues on the Board our two new members will engage energetically in this process and make a significant contribution to NITBโ€™s endeavours to achieve our ambitious tourism targets.โ€
