Water Mains Improvements For Newcastle

Newcastle Councillor Carmel O’Boyle has welcomed work to commence on the laying of new water mains by NI Water in Newcastle.

Newcastle Councillor Carmel O’Boyle has welcomed the announcement by NIW that they intend to carry out a six week programme of work in this part of Newcastle, beginning in September.

She said: “While it will undoubtedly result is some traffic disruption and inconvenience to the households and businesses affected, but is a necessary upgrade to an aging infrastructure in this part of Newcastle. This represents further investment in our town by NI Water and this has to be welcomed.

In a letter from NI Water to local properties, NI Water said: “Every effort will be made to minimise the extent of any inconvenience to local residents and businesses.xa0 Access to all properties adjacent to the works will be maintained at all times, with appropriate measures also taken to ensure safe passage of road users and pedestrians.

“There may be an interruption to your water supply during this work, however, you will receive advance notification of exactly when this is planned.”

NI water also indicated that as this development will create construction sites, they said these are dangerous areas for unauthorised persons, especially children, and they xa0would appreciate the public’s co-operation in ensuring that children do not play in or around the works or machinery.

An NI Water spokesperdson added: “We apologise for any inconvenience this installation may cause and assure you we will do everything we can to keep disruption to a minimum but would also ask for your co-operation during this time.”
