Sinn Fein Councillor Liam Johnston has praised the staff at Tyrella beach for maintaining the highest standards throughout what was an extremely busy period for one of Down’s premier tourist attractions.

Councillor Johnston said:xa0โ€œIn recent weeks there has been a lot of bad press about rubbish being left at some of our beaches. However, I feel it is important that we congratulate staff for their hard work during what has been the busiest period at our local beaches in many years.

โ€œI want to thank the staff at Tyrella beach for all they have done to make Tyrella an enjoyable experience for locals and tourists alike. The staff were not only helpful and pleasant to everyone attending the beach but they were constantly emptying bins and picking litter from morning until evening.

โ€œMaybe the way Tyrella is run and managed by the staff can be a model that could be rolled out across our district’s beaches. At a time when Down District Council is trying to promote tourism, Tyrella provided a pleasurable experience for visitors and I saw a number of people making return visits from outside our district.

โ€œI intend to bring this up with Down District Council to see if there is any way we could roll out the Tyrella model to help reduce the amount of bad press at other beaches and promote our district further.โ€
