SOUTH DOWN MP Margaret Ritchie has congratulated the Sacred Heart Primary School in Dundrum on becoming regional winners of the Westminster “Make IT Happy competition.

Included are teacher Paula Fegan , South Down MP Margaret Ritchie and Principal Pat McParland.[/caption]Speaking after her visit to Sacred Heart Primary, Ms Ritchie said she was delighted to see the school collect their prize at Westminster today (Monday 24xa0June).
Ms Richie said: “On hearing about the “Make IT Happy” competition and the opportunity for local schools to enter the competition and win the cash prize on offer, I wrote to all Primary schools in South Down advising them of the competition and how to go about entering. A number of local schools entered the competition and Sacred Heart Dundrumxa0wasxa0chosen as the Northern Ireland Regional Winner. “ ‘Make IT Happy’ xa0focuses on internet safety and students were asked to create infographics that explain the importance of internet safety for young people. This competition was a great learning tool for local students and also provided teachers with useful resources that can be used again in educating our young people about the dangers of the internet and why their safety is paramount. “This is great news for the school and the children who took part. During their visit to Westminster they received their prize and enjoyed a Westminster tour andxa0 a trip on the London Eye. The competition judges were very impressed with the entry fromxa0Sacred Heart, Dundrum, and also by the very high standard of entrants from throughout South Down. “The competition has been running for seven years and I look forward to next year’s round and further opportunities for our local primary schools,” added Ms Ritchie.
