THE Northern Ireland Independent Retail Trade Association (NIIRTA) has expressed disappointment over the decision of Airtricity to increase Electricity Bills by 18%.
NIIRTA Chief Executive Glyn Roberts said: “Following on from last weeks disappointing increase from Power NI, Airtricity have given business and domestic customers even more bad news”
“We would urge the DETI Minister to host a Summit of all key players in the Business Community and Energy companies to try and address the challenges facing the Electricity Supply Chain and how we get price stability for both domestic and business customers in the future.”

Downpatrick SDLP Councillor Dermot Curran has spoken out following the further price increase in the energy sector.
He said: “This week we have learnt that Airtricity plans to hike their electricity prices by 17.8% – taking effect from 1 July. This increase comes in the wake of Power NI’s recent decision to hike its price by a similar amount.
“We are dealing with these increases at a time when families are struggling to make ends meet. Many families cannot be squeezed any further – enough is enough.
“The SDLP have been campaigning for local renewable energy and such price hikes compound the urgent need for this to be taken further.”
