Hazzard Calls for Safety Barriers at Loughinisland Lake

dn_screen “I have now written to Roads to urge for this matter to be progressed urgently given the danger posed to road users. Residents are concerned about the safety risks at the lake. In recent days the Environment Ministers words in the Assembly highlighted the increasing number of pedestrians killed on our roads and indeed the need for the Department to do all in their power to tackle this growing concern. “I met on site with Roads representatives some months ago about his issue.xa0At that time I was informed that financial constraints were the reason for this matter not being pursued. I am concerned that financial restraints are putting road users in danger. This is a busy area for both traffic and pedestrians and it would be a tragedy if somebody was injured or killed before the barriers were eventually erected. “For this reason I have called on DRD to ensure adequate funding is allocated to fund road maintenance and safety schemes as a priority, so this work can be carried out as soon as possible,” added Mr Hazzard.]]>
