Recently First Flight Wind visited Our Lady’s Grammar School in Newry and Brackenagh West Primary School in Kilkeel to share information about the offshore wind project with the students and listen to their views. On Wednesday they will be visiting St Mary’s High School in Downpatrick. Victoria McCabe, Flight Flight Wind Community Liaison Team said: “It’s important that we involve the adults of tomorrow in our community engagement process. Learning about this offshore wind project allows young people to develop a deeper understanding of renewable energy in response to issues such as our dependence on imported fossil fuels and climate change. “It also enables them to learn more about why the Northern Ireland Executive has set targets to reduce our carbon dioxide emissions and increase the amount of electricity we produce from local renewable energy sources. “Including and involving young people in this programme may also inspire them to discover how they could develop a career for themselves within this exciting, dynamic sector.” First Flight is a consortiulm of companies from B9, RES and DONG aiming to install a marine wind farm off the coast of County Down. Diane Haugh, teacher at Brackenagh West Primary School said: “The kids are really excited about this offshore project and this visit gave them a much deeper insight into all that is involved.” First Flight Wind would like to hear from your school if you are interested in a visit from the Community Liaison Team and receiving informative presentation on the offshore wind project. First Flight Wind will be visiting Primary Schools between Monday-Friday-22-26 April, and Secondary Schools from Monday 29 April through to Friday 3 May.
