I would encourage all local expectant mums to use the unit in Downe Hospital in Downpatrick”. Year on year this service continues to grow, now doubling its numbers from first opening in 2010. The total babies born to date is 238. The unit provides a local access to maternity services in line with the government initiative of Transforming Your Care, providing a community based patient centre approach for our clients. Once again we encourage all mothers to consider using the unit for local antenatal care as well as giving birth in their local area. One local mum, Catherine McKinley who is due to give birth in the maternity unit soon said: “I have chosen to deliver in the Downe Midwifery Unit as I have heard positive reports about it and want a natural homely experience. It is a newer modern unit and is close to home which is very convenient for the family especially as this is my second baby”. ]]>
