Councillor Colin McGrath is calling on the Roads Service to install a slip Road at the junction of the Killough-Ballynoe Roads.[/caption] Commenting, the SDLP’s Downpatrick Councillor said: ‘This congestion is historic but one that has become worse since the new hospital and other facilities have opened up at this end of Downpatrick. “Much of the problem at the staggered junction is caused by traffic wishing to turn right off the Ballynoe Road which causes traffic wishing to turn left to be held up. “I have written to Roads Service and they agree in principal with me that an additional lane at this junction would be beneficial but they are unable to timescale the project as it does not currently attract a suitable high priority status. “I have asked officials to revisit this scheme and suggest that it should be given priority status given the number of vehicles that use the junction and the tail-backs that ensue. “At the Council six monthly Roads Services report I will be reinforcing this matter to officials once again and also by letter again and again until this is given the due priority it warrants and traffic flow in the area returns to acceptable levels.”
