Policing in Context: The Controversial History of Policing in Ireland‘. This talk looks at how policing developed in Ireland in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries and how the RIC and then the RUC policed the countryside during times of civil disturbance. The talk also looks at attitudes to the police among local communities and how the police force operated in changing social and political conditions. On Wednesday 17 April, Andrew Sneddon of the University of Ulster will present a fascinating glimpse into how people in the past dealt with crimes of a more unusual nature. ‘The Prosecution of Fortune Tellers and Magical Healers in xa0Nineteenth Century Ireland‘ is the topic and this promises to be an extremely interesting account of attitudes in the past to people professing to have supernatural gifts and talents. Both talks take place at 7.30pm at the museum and admission is free. Contact the museum on 028-44615218 for more details.]]>
