Update on Ballynahinch Attack: Two Charged

Two men aged 26 and 30 have been charged with aggravated burglary with intent to steal, attempted hijacking, grievous bodily harm with intent and possession of an offensive weapon with intent to commit an indictable offence. They are expected to appear before Bangor Magistrates Court this morning, Wednesday 27 February.

As is normal procedure all charges will be reviewed by the Public Prosecution Service.
It is believed these offences are in connection with an incident in the Dunmore Road area of Ballynahinch at around 10pm on Sunday night, 24 February when a house in the area was entered. The homeowner challenged two men nearby who subsequently assaulted him and attempted to steal his vehicle. The homeowner, aged in his 50’s, did not sustain any serious injuries in the incident.
Police would ask anyone who witnessed this incident or anyone who noticed any suspicious activity in the area to contact Detectives at Downpatrick on 0845 600 8000. Or, if someone would like to pass information without giving their details they can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers and speak to then anonymously on 0800 555 111.
