THE Killinchy and District Beekeper’s Association had a well attended meeting at their usual venue on the evening of Wednesday 28 November.
KDBKA spokesperson Ken Tait, said: “Guest speaker, Alan Rea of Belfast Beekeeper’s Association, presented a very helpful and informative illustrated outline of their experiences in establishing a healthy and active teaching apiary, and how it has operated in it’s first seasons.
“The Killinchy Association is presently establishing our own new teaching apiary and hopes to have it running for the spring to run alongside our currently used teaching facilities.
“We are also keen to give an introduction to anyone interested or just curious about bees and are running a Preliminary Beekeeper’s course in association with DARD, starting in February. This is an – excellent gift idea for anyone stuck for something different for a family member could be to buy a place on the course, which includes a years membership at Killinchy Association, and relevant insurance cover for when the successful candidate becomes a beekeeper.
