Warning From Police to Drunk Drivers

Following an increase in the number of drivers observed under the influence of alcohol, police in Down are warning of the dangers of driving while under the influence.

Officers have reported the increase has occurred over the last month. PSNI C District Commander Chief Superintendent Nigel Grimshaw said there is no excuse for driving under the influence. He added: “‘Your ability to drive safely can be very much impaired if you have taken drink or drugs. This could lead to an accident which can cause very serious injury, or death.u2028We are heading towards the Christmas period when people are enjoying social occasions and I would ask everyone to leave their cars at home if going to a Christmas function.

“Have a designated driver who will not be drinking, or use public transport.u2028A conviction for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs can have far reaching repercussions. Don’t become a statistic this year. Be sensible and please don’t put your life and the lives of those around you at risk.u2028Officers will continue to patrol the area and will take a very robust stance against anyone suspected of this type of behaviour.”
