ALLIANCE Newcastle Councillor Patrick Clarke has asked DRD Roads Service to provide a salt box for residents living at Blue Row along Mill Hill Castlewellan. Councillor Clarke said: “I have made written representations to DRD Roads Service regarding providing a salt box at the bottom of Blue Row near the footpath at Mill Hill Castlewellan.
“I have been contacted by a constituent at Blue Row, Castlewellan, on behalf of the local residents regarding the provision of a salt box to help local residents grit the roadway during the winter months.
“It is my understanding at present that the road into Blue Row has never been adopted and therefore DRD Roads Service have declined the provision of a salt box on previous occasions.
“However a number of residents living along Blue Row on Mill Hill Castlewellan are elderly and disabled and in light of this I would appreciate if DRD Roads Service would reconsider a salt box being located here. I have therefore requested that DRD consideration this request.”
