Congratulations go to James Murray from Downpatrick who is Down District Council’s ‘Recycler of the Month’ and he wins a £50 prize courtesy of McNabb’s Waste Management.

Lucinda White, Assistant Education Officer with Down District Council, James Murray from Downpatrick, the October Recycler of the Month, and Marty Taggart, General Operative.

He was congratulated by Down District Council’s Lucinda White, Assistant Education Officer, and Marty Taggart, General Operative, for having a flawless blue bin with no contamination.

Lucinda said: xa0“When searching for the winner we are looking for a bin that contains cardboard, although heavy cardboard must be ripped up, paper xa0but not including xa0envelopes, shredded paper or tissues, plastic bottles ie no plastic other than bottles, cans including food and aerosols and the latest addition of tinfoil.

“Although people in the district are getting increasingly better at recycling there are still some unwanted items which can’t be recycled that slip through the net. These include takeaway food boxes as they contain dirt and grease, paper tissue, plastic bags, polystyrene and food wrappers.

Down District Council’s Household Recycling Centres, where there are separate containers to recycle over 25 different materials, are located at Bann Road, Castlewellan; Cloonagh Road, Downpatrick; and Lisburn Road, Ballynahinch. The centres are open all week, Monday to Thursday, 9am to 7pm, Saturday 9am to 5pm (closes for lunch 1pm -1.45pm) and Sunday 12noon – 4pm.

Anyone who is unsure about what to put in their blue bin should contact Environmental Services who can post out detailed information on 028 4461 0800.
