New-look McDonald’s Downpatrick in Jobs Boost

McDONALD’Sxa0Downpatrick hasxa0reopened following a major refurbishment and announced plans for accompanying local job creation.

After a £400,000 investment, the newly refurbished restaurant will provide inside seating for 70 customers, an extendedxa0outside seating area,xa0free WiFi for all customers plus five charging points.

The recently refurbished McDonald’s restaurant in Downpatrick is now open for business.

The local restaurant currently employs 65 staff and hopes to employ a further seven full-time staff and five part-time staff over the coming months as part of the refurbishment.

Restaurant manager Karl Wilkinson said: “McDonald’s Downpatrick operates very much as part of the community and we are delighted to officially open our restaurant as this signifies a major investment in the local area.xa0 McDonald’s is a progressive company and through this refurbishment we are providing a modern dining environment while catering for customers who want added value, for instance through the provision of free WiFi.

“We are also pleased to announce details of new job opportunities arising as part of this initiative.xa0 McDonald’s is a responsible employer and through our Apprenticeship programme our crew have the opportunity to gain a recognised national qualification, allowing them to develop a range of valuable and transferable skills.

“Investing in the development of our staff is very important – it will help us to continue to deliver consistently high levels of customer service and we want to ensure our crew have a good learning ladder of opportunities ahead of them to benefit their career.”

“Downpatrick is very much a tourism destination and we believe that our new-look restaurant will further add to the offering for the local area,” added Mr Wilkonson.

Speaking at the official opening, Down District Council Chairman Councillor Mickey Coogan said: “I am delighted to be here today at the re-opening of McDonald’s Downpatrick. It is a tremendous improvement to the business and I’m sure will be well received by all its users. I myself often come here xa0when I attend the Youth league soccer in Dunleath Park on Sunday’s. It is a major plus for Downpatrick.”
