THE Northern Ireland Assembly Committee for Justice has today xa0(Thursday 18 October) discussed the opening of a Marie Stopes Clinic in Belfast which provides abortion services to its clients among other services.
The Committee agreed to invite representatives from the Marie Stopes Clinic to outline how they will comply with local legislation, particularly with regard to pregnancy terminations.
Chairperson of the Committee, Paul Givan MLA said: “We have decided to invite representatives from the Marie Stopes Clinic to speak to the Committee because of the level of interest and concern about the services it states it will be providing in Belfast.
“It is appropriate for this Committee to assure itself, and the public, that this private clinic will scrupulously follow the law.”
In addition, the Committee has requested that officials undertake preparatory work on future scrutiny of the matter, in particular taking into account the letter of the Attorney General.
The hundreds of pro-life protesters were involved in a a war of words with supporters of the pregnancy termination principle outside the Marie Stopes Clinic today.
