DOWN Arts Centre is delighted to be welcoming a musical legend followed by a culinary masterchef to grace its stage.
On Friday 28 September Tommy Sands will play the first Rath Celtair Folk Music Club gig taking place in Down Arts Centre this autumn, followed by Hardeep Singh Kohli’s Indian Takeaway on Saturday 29 September. Place your order now!
Tommy Sands, County Down’s renowned world singer, songwriter and social activist, has achieved something akin to legendary status in his own lifetime.
From the pioneering tours with the highly influential Sands Family, playing Carnegie Hall to Moscow’s Olympic Stadium, he has become one of Ireland’s most powerful songwriters and enchanting performers.
With a new album and more concert dates than ever, Tommy now tours with two startlingly capable young musicians – son Fionan and daughter Moya. With Tommy on vocals/guitar, Moya on fiddle/vocals/bodhran/whistle, and Fionan on mandolin/banjo, the sound is livelier than ever.
TV Presenter and Broadcaster Hardeep Singh Kohli knows a thing or two about good food. He was runner-up on the first series of Celebrity Masterchef which led to two series for UKTV Food.
His first book Indian Takeaway was nominated for an Independent Book Award and he has written about food for Olive, Observer Food Monthly, The Spectator, The Times and The Sunday Times amongst others.
Following the success of his other live shows, Nearly Naked Chef and Chat Masala, Hardeep would like to invite you to his brand new show, Indian Takeaway.
The country is obsessed with curry. That much we know. But how do Hardeep’s home-cooked curries compare to the local Indian Takeaways we love and adore? Let’s find out!
At the beginning of the show Hardeep will order a takeaway live on stage for delivery to the Down Arts Centre, having selected a local Indian takeaway from audience suggestions submitted via HardeepLive.com.
He will then order an audience member’s favourite meal. Whilst waiting for the order to arrive Hardeep cooks his own food.
Two curries with side orders of delicious cooking tips and lip-smacking comedy. What’s not to like?
Poems fro a Sunday Afternoon.
At 2.30pm on Sunday 30 September our regular poetry event, Poems for a Sunday Afternoon, will take place. We invite budding writers and readers to join us in celebrating the written word in all its forms.
Our featured readers this month will be members of Down Writers Group, a diverse group of all ages and backgrounds, who will share some poems and songs. Offering a friendly space to read, we hope that as before, those gathered will join in by sharing a piece of their work, or perhaps a favourite poem.
