JIM Shannon, MP for Strangford, has welcomed the news from DETI that there will be an Ulster Scots mobile phone app for visitors to Northern Ireland which will set out historical trails for those interested in their Ulster Scots roots.
Having just returned from America representing the Ulster Scots, I have seen first hand the thirst and interest that there is in Americans regarding their culture and heritage and this new initiative is bringing us in line with technology which will encourage more visitors to our shores.
“I am delighted that this app will set out things of note on three separate trails and I am sure that Ards will feature and should feature in this initiative one of the Ulster Scots heartlands in the Province.
“There is definitely a thirst for knowledge and we need to exploit that and this idea through DETI and DCAL will give easy access to the 30 million Ulster Scots descendants as well as holiday makers across the globe who just want to go somewhere that is first class.
“Well done to all involved and I know that this will be a feature of benefit to the tourism industry here in the Province.”
