SDLP South Down MP Margaret Ritchie has called on the Chancellor to pursue robust discussions with the Northern Ireland Executive on the issue of reducing Air Passenger Duty (APD).
Ms Ritchie xa0spoke on the floor of the House of Commons during questions to the Chancellor of the Exchequer, George Osborne, and said:xa0“The Chancellor along with his treasury colleagues must engage with the Northern Ireland executive on the issue of APD. It is vitally importantxa0that the necessary research is carried out into the effects of reducing air passenger duty and the consequent impact on tourism and the regional economy.
“Reducing APD for short haul fights between Northern Ireland, Britain and Europe will be crucial for the growth of local business as well as our hospitality industry. xa0A proper investigation into APD reduction is required with the cooperation and input of the Northern Ireland Executive before the Chancellor’s next budget.”
