THE world-famous COW Parade stopped off in Downpatrick on Monday 13 August and will remain at the Grove area beside The Saint Patrick Centre for one week of bovine fun.
Welcoming the three large cows and one “mini moo” was Down District Council Chairperson, Councillor Mickey Coogan and Stephen Bill, Destination Manager, Northern Ireland Tourist Board (NITB).
To celebrate the COW Parade’s first time in Northern Ireland and the momentous year of ni2012, the herd, adorned with the ni2012, our time our place concept, will travel to towns and cities around the country and has been on display in Downpatrick for a week and the round up for pastures green will be on Monday 20 August.
Down District Council Chairperson, Councillor Mickey Coogan said it was another boost for the district and added: “The more attractions we can offer to visitors and residents the better. Not only that, but Cow Parade has a proven history of generating revenue and increasing footfall for local businesses. Make sure you pay them a visit before they move onto the next town.”
Stephen Bill, NITB added: “The COW Parade is a fantastic initiative for everyone from all ages to enjoy. As the cows make their way across Northern Ireland, they add an eye catching burst of colour and create a great talking point in every town and city they visit.xa0 The Northern Ireland Tourist Board is delighted that Downpatrick will champion the ni2012 our time our place concept and take part in this unique installation.”
The Cow Parade is the largest and most popular public art event in the world, taking place in more than than 70 cities globally since it started in 1999.
