[caption id="attachment_31029" align="alignleft" width="400" caption="The victorious U-8 RGU team."][/caption] The Under 8′s travelled to Burren last week-end for their final competition of the year, and for the majority of the team their last u8 competition. The boys got off to our usual slow start drawing with Saval 2 scores each. Up next was Burren who ran out easy winners. However, in the last group game a close finish was enough to see them through to the Shield. Against Warrenpoint’s A team the RGU players started to find some form; Oran Cunningham and Brendan McKenna worked well in midfield while Luke Shields started to pull the strings, and 2 good goals from distance in the last few minutes saw us through to the final. In the final the boys faced Glenn and, after coming to grips with their midfield, the team took the game by the scruff of the neck and worked 3 good goals and several points. The defence dealt with the Glenn attack and kept them to a few well taken long range points. All 14 who travelled played excellently and saved their best for the final. Oran Cunningham was strong in midfield, Brendan McKenna adjusted well moving forward from defence to the middle and Matthew Louden was able to show his strengths moving back into defence. John Donnan, Aidan Diamond, Gregory Kelly, Cody Clark worked well when called upon in defence. Bradley Clark pulled off some great saves and his long kickouts started plenty of RGU attacks. Luke Shields led the attack and was assisted by Rian McShane, Shey Blaney, Lewis Green, Owen Dowd and Nathan Byrne. ‘The management would like to thank all the children for attending through the year, and the parents and families for supporting them. It will now take place indoors on Saturday afternoons from 1.30pm to 2.30pm at the Wellbeing Centre, in the Flying Horse. The U-12 girls will also train at the same venue from 2.30 pm to 3.30pm’ on Saturdays. Finally, hurling and camogie for the u-8s and U-10’s will also move indoors to the Wellbeing Centre. They will train on Sundays from 3pm to 4pm. Due to unforeseen circumstances, the juvenile presentation will now take place on Sunday 27th November at 2pm. Parents and children from U-6’s right up to u-16s, both boys and girls, are invited along. The Senior Management, players and executive committee would like to express their deep appreciation of the service provided by Brian McElroy of Premier Chiropractic for his services throughout the year. His input all year played a great part in the team’s preparations throughout the season and for that we are very grateful. Keep the following dates free; Thursday 3rd & Tuesday 8th November.
