Downpatrick Boy (12) Escapes Firework Horror

th around 12.20pm when a firework was thrown which landed in the hood of his top, causing burns to his neck. His injuries were not life threatening but required hospital treatment. Downxa0Areaxa0Commander Chief Inspector Deirdre Bones said the attack was “despicable.” She added, “This young boy is lucky not to have been more seriously hurt. Anyone who saw what happened or anyone who has information on those who are responsible is asked to contact police. “Fireworks are dangerous. They have the potential to cause horrific injuries if not handled properly and this incident proves that. It is also illegal to own, possess or buy fireworks without a proper license. Anyone caught doing so could be prosecuted. “Anyone with information on the attack on the boy, or anyone who has information on the illegal storage, sale or use of fireworks, is asked to call Downpatrick police on 0845 600 8000. “Or if someone would prefer to pass information without giving their details they can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111”, added Commander Bones.
