Down Community Radio Calls For Interested Volunteers

105FM to listen to one of the resident DJ’s including Conal Duffy who has weekly slots on Tuesday and Thursday afternoon from 2pm-4pm and Eimear O’Hagan who hosts an Irish culture programme every Wednesday morning. He said, “The station, which is based at South Eastern Regional College, will broadcast a range of music and discussion programmes with a distinct local flavour representing the interests of all sections of the local community, including those whose first language is not English.” [caption id="attachment_30277" align="alignright" width="400" caption="Down District Councillor Willie Clarke MLA chats to DJ Conal Duffy at Down Community Radio."][/caption] To develop the station, Paul is calling on more local people and organisations to get involved. “SERC is delighted to be able to help with the development of Down Community Radio which is going to provide an opportunity for local people to keep in touch with local issues and events,” he added. “The station is still in its infancy, and we are hoping to continue to grow it over the coming months. I am calling on local people who either have an interest in developing a career in radio or have previous broadcast experience to get in touch to discuss the possibilities of having your own regular slot.” As well as calling for local people to get involved Paul would also like to see community organisations and groups becoming involved.xa0 The radio station could provide a platform to communicate key messages, promote events or activities or stimulate discussion about different issues or simply raise awareness and gain new members. Paul said, “We live in a fantastic community, my hope is that the radio station reflects the positive elements of our society.
