U-16’s played host to St Joseph’s on Thursday night under the floodlights in the Summer League. Having lost at Ballykinlar by a point in the previous meeting this was destined to be a hard match, but fortunately it wasn’t. The young Hoops took control right from the start with a very early goal by Owen McEvoy. This was followed up by 3 further first half goals- 2 from Conor Doherty and 1 from Rory Bryce. The first half goals were accompanied by 8 points in what was a very strong performance with great running and support play from everyone. The defence also worked very hard and strong performances from Ryan Fitzpatrick, Dale Hutson, and Jamal McQuoid continuously snuffed out the St. Josephs attack, leaving the half-time score 4-8 to 0-4 in favour of the HoopspmThe second half was less intense and the Hoops were able to make four early substitutions ensuring that all 19 players had a meaningful amount of football. Conor McGrady and Jonny Bell kept control of the midfield whilst it was honours even in both the defence and up front. Final score 5-12 to 1-8. Scorers: Conor Doherty 2-2, Frank Starkey and Conor McGrady 4 points each, Ryan Kearney Rory Bryce and Owen McEvoy 1 goal each, Jamie Fitzpatrick and Jonny Bell 1 point each.
