Prince Charles Gets Warm Welcome In Kilkeel

This was to date the most important royal visit to a South Down town and the royal couple chatted to many people across the community about the town and its rich history. Prince Charles boarded the trawler Boy’s Pride and met the family of 86-year old Howard Smyth who have been fishing in the port for five generations. Later on, they met with MLA’s and local district councillors. The Duchess of Cornwall also tried her hand at cooking at the the Mourne Seafood Cookery School. The Prince unveiled a plaque before he left the many smiling faces behind. xa0It was a very important day in Kilkeel’s history and will be stamped on the minds of many for years to come.
