Some of the key findings for DLA include: * xa0The number of individuals in receipt of Disability Living Allowance was 185,599. * xa0The gender split for those in receipt of Disability living Allowance was 52.3% female and 47.7% male. * xa0More than three quarters (76.7%) of Disability Living Allowance Recipients were in the 40+ age group. * xa0The main disabling condition for Disability Living Allowance Recipients was ‘mental health causes’ (22.2%), followed by ‘arthritis’ (18.4%). * xa0There were 15,355 awards made in the 12 months ending 28th February 2011 and 12,153 terminations in the same period. * xa0The largest number of Disability Living Allowance recipients were found in Belfast with 37,171 in receipt of DLA (13.8% of eligible population) followed by Londonderry with 14,238 in receipt of DLA (13.0% of the eligible population). DLA is payable to people who are disabled and who have personal care needs, mobility needs or both. DLA consists of two components: the care component and the mobility component. The latest in the series of statistical reports entitled Attendance Allowance Summary Statistics was published today by the Department for Social Development. It contains information on all Attendance Allowance recipients at February 2011. Some of the key findings for Attendance Allowance include: * xa0At the end of February 2011 the number of recipients of Attendance Allowance (AA) was 56,936; * xa034.2% of AA claimants were male, and 65.8% were female, with the highest percentage (28.6%) of all claimants falling into the 80-84 age category; * xa0Of the 56,936 AA recipients at February 2011, 41,722 were on the higher rate, and 15,214 on the lower rate; * xa0The main disabling condition as of February 2011 was Arthritis, which accounted for 37.4% of all conditions; * xa0In the 12 months ending 28th February 2011, a total of 6,465 first awards of AA were made and 8,203 were terminated; * xa0The largest number of AA recipients were found in Belfast where 9,380 were receiving the benefit (23.0% of the eligible population), followed by Lisburn with 3,136 recipients (19.6% of the eligible population).
