Ulster U-14 Camogie Championship Semi-Final (Saturday 3rd September 2011) Down v Derry (Report by Rosin Rogers) Down travelled to Newbridge GAC, Co Derry, on Saturday past to take on Derry in the Ulster U14 Camogie Championship Semi-Final. Down came out of the starting blocs at fast pace and opened the scoring with Petrina Lively pucking the sliotar between the uprights followed shortly by Anna Rogan netting for the Red and Blacks. However, Derry soon settled down and struck three goals and a point without reply. But Down kept their heads and were soon rewarded with a goal from Petrina Lively. As at the start of the first half, Down came out and went straight into action with Niamh Rogers recording a goal when a high ball in from her slipped just under the bar. Then Down’s Courtney McComb added another goal to their score sheet and it looked like the visitors were back in the match but this was not to be. While Catriona Caldwell and Dearbhla Magee were superb in the Down defence the visitors just couldn’t curtail a strong, physical Derry side who went on to score a flurry of goals. Anna Rogan did snatch back a point for Down which she duly deserved for her terrific efforts throughout the match and Amy Freer also recorded one from a free but this was to be the total tally for Down and Derry finished comfortable winners at the final whistle to book a place in the final on 17th September.
