MMRT Does Newcastle Charity Stretcher Push

MEMBERS of the Mourne Mountain Rescue Team took to the streets in Newcastle last month to raise much needed funds to support the ongoing training and operational needs of the team. Aided by the newly formed ‘Friends in the Mountains Fundraising Group’ a stretcher push was organised along Newcastle main street.Jeremy Purdy MMRT secretary said, “Having braved the miserable weather on the day, we are pleased to report that £760.00 was raised from the event. The Team would like to thank everyone who dug deep that day and supported us financially. Without this continued support from the local community we would not be able to provide the professional service we are renowned for. “The ‘Friends in the Mountains Fundraising Group’ are currently on course to hit their target of raising enough funds to purchase a new landrover for the Team. All monies raised from this event will go towards this purchase. “If you would like to support the Mourne MRT you can donate online by visiting www.just giving.com/mournemrt or you can donate via text by texting MMRT10 £2 / £5 or £10 to 70070. Your support at this time is very much appreciated.” The Mourne Mountain Rescue Team is a voluntary organisation on call 24 hours a day 365 days a year and is accepted as a registered charity by the Inland Revenue. Th eorganisation wasxa0xa0awarded the ‘Queens Award for Voluntary Service’ and isxa0responsible for 90% of all mountain rescue incidents in Northern Ireland last year.]]>
