Ritchie Welcomes Hinch Bypass Progress

Ritchie welcomes progress on the proposed bypass for Ballynahinch.

SDLP MP for South Down Margaret Ritchie has welcomed news that work is continuing by the Department for Regional Development on the proposed bypass for Ballynahinch.

She said, “I have received confirmation from the Minister for Regional Development that work is currently underway to develop this scheme and progress it through the necessary statutory procedures.

“I understand the current programme indicates confirmation of the Preferred Route during this financial year.

“This is truly welcome news as the crippling traffic Ballynahinch encounters daily is no doubt having a profound detrimental impact on the economic viability of the town. I will continue to make robust representations to the Minister to ensure this scheme will come to fruition without further delay.

“While I appreciate the funding for this scheme will rely on a number of factors including the impact of the Budget 2010, I will be impressing on the Minister the need to prioritise this scheme to ensure the vitality and longevity of the market town of Down District,” added Ms Ritchie.
