The Festival parade open Friday night was great craic. Pity that two floats pulled out at the last minute but it got off the ground OK with the Kilcoo Marching Accordion Band and the Longstone Pipe Band keeping everyone in step. The great effort made by the children in the craft and costumexa0xa0workshop was visible as they appeared as an array of sea creatures. Even Sid Wright was dressed forxa0the occasion as the Mad Hatter. And this year there was a vote to see who would be the King and Queen of Ardglass…Brian Sharvin and Fiona Wills took the honours. The unmistakable 00m-pa-pa of the Friendship Silver Band who have been coming to Ardglass Festival for decades, provided the musical overtures for the close of the Festival on Saturday evening. They played their old favourites such as ‘It’s along way to Tipperary’ getting the crowd going as they passed all the hostelries in the village. Gerry Casey, Festival Chairman, said, “It has been a reasonable festival considering the great effort the committee has made. It is only a small committee and a festival requires a huge amount of planning and preparation. We can only hope next year’s festival is as good if not better than this year’s one.” If you would like to help out with next year’s festival, or run an event, come along to the festival AGM. (Details will be posted later).
