Down v Dublin (Saturday 30th July 2011, 5.00pm, Castlewellan GAC) It’s D Day for The Down Senior Camogie team this Saturday.  Not only do they play Dublin at Castlewellan GAC (5.00pm) but a win will put them into the All Ireland Semi-Final and give them a great opportunity for a Croke Park appearance. It is very much in their own hands now but a sparkling performance against Kildare must surely put them in confident mood.  They must not become complacent and if the two Carr sisters maintain current form it will give massive confidence to team mates such as Niamh Mallon and Catherine McGourty in the forward line along with Nicola Branniff and Laura Hughes who continue to improve.  Captain, Lisa McCrickard, with 2 points in her last game will have a very pivotal role to play in marshalling her troops and it is essential that the midfield pairing come to grips with the game in the early stages. Down were solid at the back against Kildare and a repeat performance should ensure victory.  Karen Tinnelly is back and the defence is better for it and great performances by Kelly O’Higgins, Orla Maginn, Paula Gribben and Emma McCormick should leave confidence high going into the latter stages of the competition. Down are coming good at the right time and a win on Saturday will catapult them into the spotlight and will signal a great finale to the season following on the back of the U16 All Ireland success earlier on this year. In addition, early visitors to Castlewellan on Saturday (2.00pm) will get the opportunity to cheer on the Down U14 County Team on their first outing when they are set to face a Dublin U14 County outfit. All in all Saturday promises to be another highlight in what already has been a wonderful season for Down Camogie.]]>
