Chairman of Down District Council, Councillor Dermot Curran, said, “Composting green waste helps to significantly reduce the amount of waste going to landfill, while producing good quality compost for our gardens. “It is not difficult to do and it seems to be becoming more popular, with approximately one third of households now composting through the brown bin scheme, the HRC’s or in their home composting bin. Householders in the area composted more than 3000 tonnes of garden waste last year and it would be great to see this increase over the coming year”.
