Ruane Meets BT Over South Down Broadband

[/caption] She said, “Mr McManus updated me on how the installation of fibre optic broadband throughout south Down is progressing. These issues are being raised at the door in both rural and urban areas and many of my constituents have pointed out they are unable to access high speed broadband. “Not only does this have implications for individual customers, it is a significant impediment that is preventing businesses from locating in the south Down area. “Reliable and fast internet access is a key requirement of everyday life and rural communities in places like the Mournes and Crotlieve are suffering as a result of having to use outdated technology.xa0 Sinn Féin will continue to work with BT and other providers to ensure people have access to the most up to date broadband available. “BTs aim is that the North of Irelandxa0will be to the fore in European fibre broadband league tables and I welcome the announcement their commitment to invest £2.5 billion in developing its fibre programme. Continued investment in Broadband Technology, particularly inxa0south Down, is necessary to ensure that people living, working and running businesses here are able to access its full benefits.”]]>
