Enterprise Is Thirsty Work At SERC

Ted Jensen, founder of Big Ted’s American Cookies then inspired students to ‘get off your butt’ and grab opportunities; and that is exactly what one student did when Ted asked who wanted a packet of his cookies – whilst others raised their hands, this enterprising student got out of his seat and grabbed them! [caption id="attachment_22436" align="alignleft" width="400" caption="The winning team, Robert Clelland, Chris Nixon and Scott Rodgers are pictured along with Coca-Cola Hellenic'x80x99s Emma Armer, Sharon Browne from SERC and Paul Cassidy also Coca-Cola Hellenic."][/caption] Coca-Cola Hellenic then challenged the students to develop a concept to include a strap-line and new label or poster which would celebrate its 125th anniversary. There was a real energy in the room as the students thrashed out their ideas and came up with their concept. The Coca-Cola Hellenic events team were on hand to share their inside knowledge and keep the students refreshed with complimentary drinks. Each team then had to pitch their idea to the judging panel of Paul Cassidy, Coca-Cola Hellenic; Ted Jensen, Big Ted’s American Cookies; and Janice Cooke, SERC. Getting up to present their idea was a challenge in itself for many of the students, but they rocked the ‘mic’ and impressed the judges. A team of Art and Design students, Scott Rodgers from Killyleagh, Chris Nixon from Annalong and Downpatrick local Robert Cleland came out on top with their simple, yet effective ‘Refreshment that lasts’ slogan. Judges were impressed with how the idea reflected the Coke brand and incorporated the 125th anniversary and felt that it had to potential to run as a Coca-Cola campaign. SERC endeavours to encourage enterprise amongst students and has many examples students who have set up their own business. This event is just one of many that run throughout the year to educate students on enterprise, using real life examples to highlight what can be achieved with business start-up.]]>
