Boyle Praises Ards Sports Awards

Letter to the Editor

re: Ards Borough Sports Awards.
“I would like to congratulate everyone associated with the recent Ards Borough Sports Awards event that was held in the Queens Hall, Newtownards. Similar to past years this was a well organised event where I would pay tribute to the Sports Development Committee and in particular to the Sports Development Officer Emma Hingston as well asxa0 that of the Director of Leisure Archie Walls and to the staff within the Council’s Leisure Service Department.
“The Council has a strong policy of developing and supporting all sporting codes within the borough and recognises the importance of assisting and playing it’s role in nurturing a healthy life style for all of it’s rate-payers. I pay tribute to everyone nominated on the evening for their contribution, successes and achievements within their respective sporting interests. To the eventualxa0recipients of thexa0awards on the evening I extend my congratulations and hope that everyone can strive for even greater successes within their respective sporting interests
“It was a pleasure to meet with guest speaker on the evening, Ulster Rugby Coach Brian Mc Laughlin who delivered an excellent addressxa0to the large crowd in attendance for the event. It was interesting to note that such were the qualities within coaching that Brian brought to the game that Eddie O Sullivan appointed him as the specialist skills coach to the Ireland squad and during his three year appointment Ireland enjoyed the successes ofxa0twoxa0triple crowns and a world cup appearance.
“The Annual Ards Sports Awards event would not be complete without the contribution of Denis Nash in his nowxa0familiar and knowledgeable role as Master of Ceremonies.xa0I would therefore record a special note of thanks and appreciation to Denis forxa0his input to the evening.
I look forward to next year’s Sports Awards Ceremonies where we can all once again honour and recognise the successes and achievements of our sporting heroes from within the borough involving the wide ranging sporting codes and interests”.
Yours sincerely,
Councillor Joe Boyle,
SDLP Ards Peninsula,
Ards Borough Council.
