Ruane On Loughinisland Report Delay

Ms Ruane, who over the past six years has worked closely with the families and their legal representatives since they commenced their process with the Police Ombudsman said,xa0“In the search for the truth about the deaths of their loved ones in the 1994 Height’s Bar massacre, the Loughinisland families have conducted themselves with great dignity and they are determined to get justice. “I have spoken with survivors of the atrocity and family members of the bereaved to get their views on this most recent and frustrating delay and I respect their continuing patience at what has been a very difficult process. “The families’ position has always been that they would provide the office of the Police Ombudsman the space and time that is required to conduct a full, proper and independent investigation into their complaint.xa0 They will reserve commenting on the conclusions of the Report until they have the opportunity to study its finding but are of the opinion that the Ombudsman’s investigation will be of great public importance as it will exam the ability of the RUC to conduct mass murder investigations. “It will also hopefully shed light onto the extent of RUC collusion with loyalist murder gangs and as such they are prepared to accede to the Ombudsman’s request for further time to finally conclude his Report. “Sinn Féin fully respects the families’ position and we look forward to the publication of the Ombudsman’s findings which I hope are made available as soon as possible.”]]>
