Sinn Féin targets Strangford seat as Chris Hazzard selected as candidate for 2027 Assembly election
Sinn Féin has selected Chris Hazzard to stand in the next Assembly election in Strangford in May 2027.
Speaking ahead of the launch on Wednesday evening at the Montalto Estate in Ballynahinch, Sinn Féin Leas Uachtarán Michelle O’Neill said:
“In May of next year, voters will go to the polls here in the North, with the Assembly and Council elections happening on the same day.
“These elections are the most important elections in generations. They are an opportunity for people to make a stand for their future.
“To show that change in the North is unstoppable.

“Sinn Féin is looking forward to the future with confidence.
“And we are determined to ensure that everyone, whatever their background, will grow up in a better world than we did.
“There has never been a Nationalist MLA in Strangford.
“However, with the new constituency boundaries and the inclusion of new areas for the first time, Sinn Féin is in pole position to win in Strangford.
“Chris Hazzard can become Strangford’s first ever Nationalist MLA.
“Chris was born and raised in this area.
“For almost 15 years, Chris has worked hard to deliver for communities and to provide strong leadership, including as a Minister.
“And now he will bring that experience and determination to Strangford.
“Sinn Féin is ambitious, we are confident, we are moving forward in this constituency.
“Every single vote will count in May 2027.”
