Downpatrick SuperValu Shopper Scoops £1000 Prize

Downpatrick shopper wins £1,000 as SuperValu celebrates 30 years in Northern Ireland

Customers, colleagues and members of the local community came together at SuperValu Downpatrick as the store hosted a special family fun day to celebrate 30 years of SuperValu in Northern Ireland.

Among those enjoying the celebrations was local shopper Colette Doherty, who struck it lucky when her till receipt revealed she had won £1,000 as part of the SuperValu and Centra ‘30 Years, 30 Chances, £30k’ giveaway.

One of the first SuperValu stores to open in Northern Ireland, the Downpatrick store welcomed shoppers of all ages for an afternoon of entertainment hosted by radio presenter Pete Snodden, featuring giveaways, face painting, music, birthday cake and family activities.

The event formed part of wider celebrations marking three decades of SuperValu and sister brand Centra, both owned by Musgrave NI, which have served communities across Northern Ireland since 1996.

To thank shoppers for their loyalty, the brands have launched a special ‘30 Years, 30 Chances, £30k’ giveaway, giving customers the chance to win £1,000 every day for 30 days, with winners selected at random at store tills across Northern Ireland until 13 October.

Oliver Martin, Head of Company Owned Stores at Musgrave NI, said: “It was fantastic to see so many customers joining us to celebrate this important milestone.

“For three decades, SuperValu and Centra have supported local communities, championed local suppliers and producers, created employment opportunities and provided great value and service to customers across Northern Ireland. Events like this are an opportunity to thank customers who have supported us throughout that journey.”

Elaine Sharvin, Store Manager at SuperValu Downpatrick, added: “For 30 years, this store has been at the heart of the Ballymote and Downpatrick community, serving generations of local families.

“Some of our colleagues have dedicated a significant part of their careers to this store, with four team members having more than ten years’ service each, and a combined 96 years between them. Their commitment, combined with the loyalty of our customers, is what makes this anniversary so special.

“We were delighted to welcome so many customers to our anniversary event and celebrate with many familiar faces from across the community. Seeing Colette win £1,000 as part of our 30th anniversary giveaway made the day even more special and was a wonderful way to thank customers for their support over the past three decades.”
