Good Jobs Bill will be transformative for workers in Portaferry says Noel Sands
Sinn Féin’s Ard Peninsula representative Noel Sands has called on the DUP to stop blocking the Good Jobs Bill, stating that it will transform rights for workers across Portaferry and the North.
Speaking in Portaferry alongside South Down MP Chris Hazzard, Mr Sands said: “The Good Jobs Bill will be transformative for workers here in Portaferry.
“It will tackle exploitative zero-hours contracts, strengthen flexible working rights, protect women from dismissal during maternity leave, introduce carer’s leave and paid neonatal care leave, and make it easier for workers to join trade unions.
“People across County Down are struggling with the cost of living every day. The Good Jobs Bill would make a real difference to their lives.
“It’s time for the DUP to stop blocking this important legislation”.
South Down MP Chris Hazzard added: “By continuing to block the Good Jobs Bill from the Executive, the DUP are denying workers rights. That is unacceptable amidst the current cost of living crisis.
“Sinn Féin will continue to press ahead with this legislation because workers deserve better.
“Workers’ rights should not be delayed.”
